152 Immigration Cases in One Week

Federal prosecutors in El Paso filed 152 immigration and immigration-related criminal cases in a single week, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Texas announced from the week of May 22 to May 28.

The week's caseload included an illegal re-entry charge against an Ecuadorian national who had been removed from the U.S. three times previously. The Western District as a whole closed out May with 350 new immigration cases across the Del Rio, El Paso, San Antonio, and Midland-Odessa divisions.

The volume reflects the DOJ's sustained enforcement posture along the Texas-Mexico border, where federal resources have been concentrated following the administration's immigration crackdown. El Paso's federal court docket remains among the busiest immigration dockets in the country.

Paxtons' Divorce Trial Canceled

The divorce trial between Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and State Sen. Angela Paxton has been canceled as the couple works toward what their attorneys described as an amicable resolution.

The trial had been set for June 24-26. Angela Paxton announced the divorce filing last July "on biblical grounds," saying she had "earnestly pursued reconciliation" after the couple's 38-year marriage deteriorated publicly. No reason was given for the court's cancellation.

The news comes a week after Ken Paxton won his Senate primary runoff for the seat currently held by U.S. Sen. John Cornyn.

Longhorns Win Game 1 of WCWS

Defending champ Texas softball is one win from a repeat national title after beating Texas Tech 7-3 in Game 1 of the Women's College World Series Finals last night. It's an all-Lone Star rematch of last year's championship series, which the Longhorns won two games to one.

The Longhorns blitzed Texas Tech for a 5-1 first-inning lead and never looked back. Catcher Katie Stewart crushed a two-run homer—her fourth in four games—while ace Teagan Kavan, last year's Most Outstanding Player, went the distance in the circle.

Texas Tech isn't done yet, though. Coach Gerry Glasco pulled All-American pitcher NiJaree Canady early, telling ESPN he had to save his ace for tonight's game.

Game 2 is tonight on ESPN from Devon Park in Oklahoma City. A Longhorns win clinches the crown, but a Tech win forces a winner-take-all Game 3 tomorrow. How to Watch.
