The Phillies offense was a major contributor in Tuesday night's win over the Washington Nationals. They finished with 12 runs on 18 hits in the win to improve to 68-64 on the season.

Washington Pulls Ahead

Despite the strong offensive day, Philadelphia didn't score first. A first-inning run and a pair of second-inning runs had the Phillies down 3-0 after three innings. The Phillies did score a pair during the fourth on an Andrew McCutchen home run to cut the lead to 3-2. Carter Kieboom would hit a homer for Washington during the bottom half of the fourth to extend their lead to 5-2.

The Comeback

The Phillies plated a run to cut the deficit to 5-3 in the fifth. Then in the sixth inning, the bats came alive. Rafael Marchan hit his first homer of the year to tie the score at five. Bryce Harper hit a two-run scoring single to give them a 7-5 lead. McCutchen then hit an RBI to extend the lead to three runs. He would then come around to score on a single by Odubel Herrera for the sixth run of the inning and a 9-5 lead.

Philadelphia would then add three more runs in the ninth inning highlighted by a Brad Miller two-run home run and a run coming home from a wild pitch.

Washington added a ninth-inning run to cut the lead in half, but the one run was all they could muster in a 12-6 loss. The Nationals did finish with 10 hits to go alongside their six runs scored.

Bailey Falter picked up the win in relief of Phillies starter Matt Moore, after going 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Patrick Corbin was the starter and losing pitcher for Washington after giving up six runs in five innings
