Article Icon 1Voter Registration Ends Today

Ohioans have until 9 p.m. today to register or update their registration for the Nov. 3 general election.

County boards of elections and the secretary of state’s office will stay open until the deadline, and registration is also available online. Early in-person voting and absentee voting by mail begin Tuesday.

With every statewide officeholder term-limited, voters will choose a new governor, attorney general, auditor, secretary of state, and treasurer. Republican Vivek Ramaswamy and Democrat Amy Acton headline the governor’s race, and the ballot also includes a U.S. Senate seat and two Ohio Supreme Court races.

Voters will also decide Issue 3, which would write Ohio’s existing photo ID requirement for in-person voting into the state constitution, making it harder for future legislatures to repeal it.

Holiday shipping just got pricier, as the U.S. Postal Service’s temporary peak season rates took effect Sunday. Postal officials say the change covers extra handling costs during the holiday rush.

The increases apply to Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, USPS Ground Advantage, and Parcel Select through Jan. 17, 2027.

Most customers will see single-digit to low double-digit percentage hikes, while heavy, long-distance packages could cost up to 25% more.

The Postal Service recommends sending most packages by Dec. 17-19 to ensure they arrive by Christmas.

Article Icon 1List: Nine Metroparks to Visit This Fall

A new list from Ohio Magazine spotlights nine metroparks near Ohio’s cities, pairing fall color with the history of each site. The picks stretch from Lake Erie Bluffs in Lake County to Miami Whitewater Forest in Hamilton County.

In northeast Ohio, Cleveland Metroparks’ Squire’s Castle at North Chagrin Reservation dates to the 1890s, when a Standard Oil Co. executive commissioned it for an estate that was never completed.

In southwest Ohio, Dayton’s Cox Arboretum MetroPark grew from a farm James M. Cox Jr. bought in 1952.

Quarry Trails Metro Park in central Ohio was built on an abandoned quarry that supplied limestone for the Ohio Statehouse. The list also includes Toledo’s Manhattan Marsh Preserve, Youngstown’s Mill Creek Park, and more.
