Pope Leo XIV’s lung cancer was likely caught in its earliest stage, an Ohio State University doctor said after surgeons removed the lower lobe of the pontiff’s right lung.

Dr. Robert Merritt, director of thoracic surgery at Ohio State’s Wexner Medical Center, said most patients who undergo surgery for stage one adenocarcinoma, the most common form of lung cancer, make a full recovery.

Youngstown Bishop David Bonnar urged Mahoning Valley Catholics to remember the Holy Father in their daily prayers.

Church bells rang Tuesday evening as parishioners gathered for Mass at Cleveland’s St. Rocco Parish, while the Diocese of Cleveland gave thanks “for a successful surgery.”

Article Icon 1DeWine Issues Order on NCAA Eligibility

Gov. Mike DeWine signed an executive order Tuesday clearing the way for Ohio colleges to let athletes who graduated from high school in 2022 play a fifth season, defying the NCAA’s new eligibility rule.

The NCAA’s summer rule change granted five seasons only to the class of 2023 and younger, shutting out 2022 graduates who had already played four years.

The order applies to public and private schools but excludes athletes who have played professionally. NCAA President Charlie Baker fired back that the governor “cannot legislate NCAA eligibility rules.”

Meanwhile, the Ohio Supreme Court stayed an appeals court ruling Wednesday in a separate lawsuit, restoring eligibility for Cincinnati’s MJ Collins, Xavier’s Filip Borovicanin, and the other players in the case.

A Bath ranch with an open pet-washing shower in its kitchen has gone viral on Zillow Gone Wild, drawing more than 3,000 likes and nearly 400 comments on Instagram.

The 3,574-square-foot home sits on more than three wooded acres in Summit County and is listed at $375,000, complete with a vaulted great room, a commercial-style kitchen, and a detached garage for six vehicles.

The post never mentioned the shower was meant for pets, prompting one commenter to joke: “When they said it was a ranch, I didn’t think that meant they were washing horses in the kitchen.”

Thirty-two photos of the contingent listing can be seen here.
