State health officials have reported at least 364 cases of cyclosporiasis as of Thursday. The illness is caused by a parasite spread through contaminated produce and can trigger watery and sometimes explosive diarrhea.

Northwest Ohio has been hit hardest, with Lucas and Wood counties reporting the most infections. At the Perrysburg Farmers Market, shoppers are weighing concerns, though vendors say produce sales remain steady as customers take greater care to wash their fruits and vegetables.

Most cases surfaced in June, and nearly 50 people have been hospitalized. No deaths have been reported. Investigators still haven’t identified a single source, and health officials are urging residents to wash their hands and fresh produce thoroughly.

Some restaurants are even taking precautions, with some Taco Bell locations pulling fresh ingredients such as lettuce, cilantro, and guacamole.

Ohio placed six cities among the nation’s 50 most bed bug-infested cities, more than any other state in Orkin’s national pest-control ranking.

The annual list, based on treatment data collected from May 2025 through May 2026, ranked Cleveland highest among Ohio cities at No. 4 nationally. Columbus followed at No. 8, and Cincinnati ranked No. 15.

Youngstown, Dayton, and Toledo rounded out Ohio’s showing at Nos. 32, 38, and 42. Orkin warned that summer travel can help bed bugs spread, particularly in densely populated areas.

Early risers this weekend can catch a celestial lineup in the eastern sky, with the moon, Mars, and Saturn gathering before sunrise Saturday and Sunday.

The waning crescent moon will help viewers locate Mars, which appears as a small reddish point, while brighter Saturn shines nearby. Uranus occupies the same stretch of sky but is too faint to see without binoculars or a telescope.

Viewing will be best during the hour before dawn from a dark location with an unobstructed eastern horizon. The mornings surrounding the July 14 new moon also provide the month’s best opportunities to see the Milky Way.
