Good Morning! On this day in 1941, New York Yankees center fielder Joe DiMaggio recorded a hit in his 56th consecutive game, still the longest hitting streak in baseball history. The streak ended the next day in Cleveland, and many still consider this record to be unbreakable. So, is it hot enough for you where you live? The ongoing heat wave and heavy rain blasting much of America got us thinking about extreme weather events, and which type was worst. Of course, everyone at The Flyover had a different opinion. Let us know what you think in today's Poll, and you can reply directly to this email if you want to explain further. For nearly 30 years, almost every major Alzheimer's drug has chased the same sticky protein in the brain, and families have been handed the same modest results over and over. This week, researchers went after something else entirely, and what they found has the whole field tuning in. It could be the biggest shift in how this disease is treated in a generation, and it all comes down to a shot given just twice a year. In today's episode of The Flyover Podcast, Ayla breaks down what researchers found and what still has to be proven before this reaches anyone. Tune in here to learn more. US Launches New Wave of Iran Strikes
The U.S. military launched a new wave of strikes against Iran Wednesday morning, firing precision munitions at coastal defense systems and cruise missile sites on Greater Tunb Island in a 90-minute operation that ended at 7:30 a.m. ET. The strikes mark the fifth consecutive day of U.S. attacks aimed at degrading Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. President Trump reinstated a naval blockade on Iranian ports Tuesday and warned that power plants and bridges would be targeted next week if Tehran does not return to negotiations. In an interview with Fox News, Trump said the Iranian regime was “evil,” adding “I don’t want to negotiate now. I said, ‘Let’s not negotiate.’ Three days ago, we had a deal.” |
$1 Trump Coin Coming for America's 250th
The U.S. Mint has begun producing a new $1 gold-colored coin bearing President Trump's likeness to mark America's 250th birthday, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced Wednesday. The coin features Trump's portrait alongside the inscriptions "Liberty," "In God We Trust," and "1776-2026" on the front, with the presidential seal and "One Dollar" on the reverse. It is made of non-precious metals with a gold-like finish and is expected to be available this fall. Critics note that federal law has barred living persons from appearing on U.S. currency since 1866, but Treasury officials say placing Trump on the coin's front, not the reverse, sidesteps the statute's restrictions. |
List: Impacts of Permanent Daylight Saving Time
Congress’ push to make daylight saving time permanent will have varying impacts depending on where you live, and the differences across states, and seasons, can be dramatic. Under the Sunshine Protection Act just passed by the House, winters would shift noticeably. Sunsets in much of the country would push past 5 p.m. even in December. The tradeoff: winter sunrises in cities like Seattle would not come until 8:38 a.m., Cleveland 8:31, and Billings, Montana, nearly 9 a.m. Here’s a list showing projected sunrise and sunset shifts in 20 cities and a map displaying the status of clock legislation in all 50 states. Nineteen states have already passed laws to lock their clocks on permanent daylight saving time, while more than a dozen others have introduced bills going the opposite direction, toward permanent standard time. The bill now heads to the Senate, where its path is far from certain. Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark) has warned the measure would force schoolchildren to walk to class in pitch darkness, and a competing House bill would make standard time permanent instead.
