Toledo Festival Shooting Wounds 12
At least 12 people were wounded, two of them critically, in a shooting Saturday evening at the Old West End Festival in Toledo. Police say at least two people opened fire on each other near the Delaware and Glenwood intersection just before 6 p.m., with bystanders caught in the crossfire. No fatalities were reported, and the search for suspects continued into Sunday. Gov. Mike DeWine said he was "deeply concerned" about the shooting. "Summer festivals should be safe spaces for families to spend time together without fear of violence," he said. The Old West End Festival is an annual gathering in one of Toledo's oldest historic neighborhoods, drawing visitors with live music and home tours. |
Ohio Nuclear Industry Launches Trade Alliance
Ohio's nuclear energy sector launched the Ohio Nuclear Alliance at a downtown Columbus event last week, during which Ohio House Speaker Matt Huffman, R-Lima, told attendees he believed "most energy" would be nuclear 100 years from now. Alliance President Rashay Khripunova said the industry needed a "coordinating, unified voice" as Ohio navigates a wave of new nuclear energy investments. Earlier this year, Meta—the parent company of Facebook and Instagram—announced a nuclear power agreement for its Prometheus AI data center under construction in New Albany. Last fall, Centrus Energy, a nuclear fuel supplier, announced plans for a multibillion-dollar expansion of its uranium enrichment plant in Pike County. More information about the Ohio Nuclear Alliance is available on its website. |
Storms Force Marathon Sunday at Muirfield Village
J.T. Poston won the Memorial Tournament on Sunday, defeating Ryan Gerard on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff at Muirfield Village Golf Club following a grueling day that began with the completion of a storm-suspended third round. Storms that swept through central Ohio forced a suspension of play Saturday, and Poston entered Sunday's final round holding a four-shot advantage. Poston relinquished his lead at the 17th hole before sinking a birdie putt at No. 18 to force the playoff against Gerard. Poston secured the title on the second extra hole after Gerard missed a 6-foot par putt, capping a 33-hole day for both players. Highlights from the final round and playoff are available here. |
