Ramaswamy Targets Fraud, Income Tax

Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy rolled out a plan Tuesday to "crush" Medicaid fraud in the Buckeye State, vowing to prioritize fraud investigations and cut out overlap in Ohio's Medicaid structure.

The candidate said he’d aim to bring in an estimated $3.1 billion by petitioning the federal government to let Ohio retain 65 cents of every fraud dollar discovered, up from the 35 cents the state currently keeps.

Ramaswamy framed Medicaid fraud as a "moral issue" on the part of the criminals exploiting the system and a "moral failure of a government that refuses to go after it.”

Alongside the fraud crackdown, Ramaswamy unveiled a plan to phase out Ohio's state income tax over an eight- to 10-year window, pairing the cut with an effort to court new business investment to help offset the lost tax revenue.

Cleveland Curator Marks Semiquincentennial

Cleveland native David Gary, associate director of collections at the American Philosophical Society in Philadelphia, has curated a new exhibit honoring the Declaration of Independence as the nation prepares to mark the 250th anniversary of its signing.

The exhibit, which opened last month, traces the years leading up to the drafting of the Declaration and features 19 copies of the document—among them an original draft penned by Thomas Jefferson.

Among the other artifacts on display are a chair Jefferson sat in as he drafted the document, a map that once hung in Independence Hall, and a 1776 printing of Thomas Paine's Common Sense.

More information about the American Philosophical Society's exhibit, These Truths: The Declarations of Independence, is available on the society's website.
