Teams Snag Conference Baseball Titles
Two Peach State colleges won conference baseball championships Sunday, with Georgia Tech capturing the ACC tournament title and Georgia winning its first-ever SEC tournament crown. With the wins, the Yellow Jackets and Bulldogs are in line for top seeds when brackets for the NCAA baseball tournament are released today. Both schools will also host regional games. On Sunday in Charlotte, Georgia Tech powered past North Carolina, building on the momentum from its second straight ACC regular-season title. The Bulldogs routed Arkansas in the SEC tournament final Sunday in Hoover, Alabama. The day before, Georgia came back from six runs down to beat Florida 8-7. |
Airport Begins Ebola Screening
The CDC expanded mandatory Ebola public health screening to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, one of three U.S. airports designated to process travelers arriving from Ebola-affected regions of Africa. Officials stress that the risk to the general public remains low and the screenings are a precautionary public health measure. The screening comes amid a fast-moving Ebola outbreak across the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan. American travelers returning from those three countries within the past 21 days will be routed into Hartsfield-Jackson, Washington Dulles, or Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport for health screening. The process includes interviews with CDC officers, temperature checks, and self-monitoring instructions. |
