University of Georgia (UGA) and Georgia Tech (GT) baseball have advanced to the semifinals in their respective conference tournaments.

No. 1 seed UGA defeated No. 8 seed Mississippi State 5-3 in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament on Thursday, fueled by a three-run home run from first baseman Brennan Hudson and four double plays.

Top-seed GT scored 11 combined runs in the seventh and eighth innings, highlighted by a two-out grand slam by outfielder Parker Brosius, to erase a 5-9 deficit in their 16–10 win over No. 8 seed Virginia in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament.

UGA will take on Florida in its semifinal matchup, while GT is set to play Miami. Both games are scheduled for 1 p.m. today.

Article Icon 1Macon Family Sues Over Jail Death

Stephen Fossett's family has filed two lawsuits, one federal and one state, over his 2024 death at the Bibb County Jail.

The state suit accuses the jail's medical provider of malpractice and systemic failures, while the federal suit names Bibb County deputies, alleging wrongful death, excessive force, and civil rights violations.

Fossett died after being tased and restrained during a medical emergency. Authorities said he had ingested synthetic marijuana and became combative before being subdued.

The family's attorneys argue that Fossett, who had documented mental health conditions, should have been housed in a mental health unit rather than the general population.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation ruled his death a homicide, but no criminal charges have been filed.
