Texas Man Indicted in Forced Abortion

A Montgomery County, Texas, grand jury indicted a 25-year-old man after authorities say he secretly drugged his girlfriend with abortion medication, killing the unborn child.

Jon Rueben Demeter faces two first-degree felonies, performance of an abortion and injury to a child, upgraded this week from aggravated assault.

Investigators say Demeter crushed mifepristone into a water bottle with a Liquid I.V. packet. The baby, Presley Mae, was stillborn at 55 grams. He allegedly obtained the drug online after offering to pay for her to travel out of state.

The case is expected to be reset for later this summer.

Texas Schools to Offer Free Meals

Several Texas school districts are launching free summer meal programs for kids 18 and under, with sites opening across the San Antonio, Dallas, and Fort Worth areas.

The initiative runs through the Texas Department of Agriculture's Seamless Summer Nutrition Program, which requires no application and serves all eligible children regardless of enrollment status.

Participating districts include San Antonio ISD, North East ISD, Carrollton-Farmers Branch, Grand Prairie, and Grapevine-Colleyville.

Most programs begin in late May or early June and run through late July, with breakfast served as early as 7 a.m. and lunch starting around 10:30 a.m.

Teen Builds AI to Stop Wrong-Way Crashes

Recent Dallas ISD graduate Rohan Parthipan, now a Carnegie Mellon University freshman, has spent two years building an AI dash cam designed to warn drivers heading the wrong way on the highway.

His system uses a smart camera to detect the backs of street signs, a telltale marker of wrong-way driving, then triggers alerts within 30 to 45 seconds in field tests.

Wrong-way crashes have long plagued North Texas. A wrong-way crash on U.S. 75 in Dallas killed 23-year-old chef Christopher Ourfalian and another person on Tuesday, critically injured a third, and closed southbound lanes for hours.
