Company Details 500-Job Expansion
More details are emerging about Unified Legacy's plan to bring 500 jobs to Macon-Bibb County over the coming years. The Georgia precision metal fabrication and manufacturing company plans a new plant focused on U.S.-based production. The $125 million project was announced earlier this month. The company plans to hire for a range of roles, including manufacturing, skilled trades, engineering, logistics, quality control, and administrative positions. "Georgia has been central to our growth from day one, and this investment in Macon-Bibb County reflects our confidence in the region and its workforce,” CEO Eric Williams said. |
Green Card Applicants Face New Rules
The Trump administration announced that immigrants in Georgia and elsewhere seeking permanent work visas may need to return to their home countries before applying. Exceptions for extraordinary circumstances will exist, the administration said in detailing the change to longstanding U.S. policy on permanent work visas, also known as green cards. "This policy allows our immigration system to function as the law intended instead of incentivizing loopholes," a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services spokesperson said. Critics of the change cited the possibility that immigrants could face extended separation from jobs and families. |
Museum Hosts America 250 Display
The Augusta Museum of History is celebrating America's 250th birthday with rotating displays focused on the community's past. The exhibit, titled Where We've Been, Where We Are, and the Stories Along the Way, switches displays every three months to focus on a different chapter of the CSRA's past. The current rotation covers the Civil War to the end of the 1800s. The museum is also spotlighting artifacts on social media. "We wanted to hit on some of the major historical points that have happened in the last 250 years in Augusta, but try to do it in ways that brought in some of these objects that maybe haven’t been shown to the public as much,” museum registrar Alena Rensch said. You can find out more about the museum here. |
