| CNN's Future Unclear CNN chief Mark Thompson urged employees to keep calm after Paramount emerged as the apparent winner in the race to buy the Atlanta-based network's parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery. Paramount leader David Ellison hasn't outlined plans for CNN, but the pending sale has sparked anxiety within the network about layoffs, on-air talent changes, and a possible shift in editorial direction. CNN averaged 807,000 daily prime time viewers in February, less than a third of ratings leader Fox News. CNN's total day viewership averaged 613,000 for all age groups and 99,000 in the 25-54 age group the week of Feb. 9. The sale could take several months to close if regulators approve. | $22.4 Billion Energy Loan Detailed A $22.4 billion loan awarded to Georgia Power from the U.S. Department of Energy will fund the utility's plans for natural gas power plants, transmission lines, and grid upgrades. The loan was one of two approved last week for Georgia Power's Atlanta-based parent company, Southern Company, with a smaller $4.1 billion loan OK'd for Alabama Power. U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright said the loans come with a subsidized interest rate that will save Georgia and Alabama customers more than $7 billion over time. The Energy Department said the Southern Company is one of the first companies to work with the Trump Administration on what the agency termed "common-sense energy investments." Georgia's energy policies remain a focus of ongoing political debate within the state. | World Cup Group Rings Opening Bell Elected officials and other World Cup supporters from Georgia rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Monday, marking just over 100 days until Atlanta helps host the global soccer event. Gov. Brian Kemp and Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens led the Atlanta World Cup Host Committee's visit to Wall Street, joined by Lt. Gov. Burt Jones, who is running to succeed Kemp. Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta is slated to host eight matches, starting with group matches in mid- to late June and ending with a semifinal match on July 15. Ten other U.S. cities will also host matches this summer. You can find a full schedule here. | |
