| | Thursday, January 22, 2026 | | | Good Morning! On this day in 1991, the Texas Supreme Court ruled in Edgewood ISD v. Kirby that the state's new school finance system was unconstitutional. The court's decision, along with another issued exactly one year later, led to the creation of a system to "recapture" property tax revenue from wealthy districts and redistribute it to poor districts—a process referred to as the Robin Hood plan. Gov. Abbott has activated the state's emergency response resources ahead of this weekend's winter storm. Today's sponsor, TriAgenics, is developing a painless, 90-second way to prevent wisdom teeth from ever forming in kids ages 6–12—an innovation early investors can get in on now with up to a 10% bonus stock before Feb. 3. Greg Abbott has designated a foreign terrorist organization. GCISD confirmed Tuesday that it is "severing the negotiations" with the Islamic Games for the use of its district facilities in May after Keller Mayor Armin Mizani and several state representatives denounced the event, which had been held at a local high school the past two years. Yesterday, Abbott ordered Cy-Fair ISD to preserve correspondence with organizers of the Islamic Games for an event in October, threatening seizure of such records by the Texas Education Agency if administrators did not confirm that "any negotiations or agreements for this event have been terminated." "Radical Islamic extremism is not welcome in Texas—and certainly not in our schools," Abbott wrote. CAIR has disputed allegations that it sponsors the Islamic Games, explaining that one of its chapters was inadvertently included in a list of supporters because it provided drawstring bags for a 2023 event in New Jersey. | Tesla's Lithium Refinery Up and Running Tesla's new lithium refinery in Robstown began operations last week, according to a Jan. 14 X post by CEO Elon Musk, who hailed it as the "largest Lithium refinery in America." The company broke ground on the 1,200-acre site in May 2023. The refinery, which is expected to create up to 250 full-time jobs, is the "first industrial deployment of an acid-free lithium refining route," converting spodumene ore directly into battery-grade lithium hydroxide. Here's a video about the plant. "We're deploying a new technology platform that is inherently much more environmentally friendly and cleaner," said site manager Jason Bevan. "It's a simpler process, it's a less expensive process." Tesla boasted that the project "ushers in energy independence for North America." China refines the majority of the world's commercial lithium, sourcing much of it from countries that rely on child labor. | Texas Home Values Fell 2.45% Last Year Texas home values dropped by 2.45% in 2025, according to Zillow, marking the largest single-year decrease since 2011.
