Article Icon 1Trump Returns to Texas Campaign Trail

President Trump rallied at the Port of Corpus Christi on Tuesday before an evening stop in Lubbock, his third Texas visit this month, with one week left until Election Day.

Trump is working to lift Republican Ken Paxton in a competitive U.S. Senate race against Democrat James Talarico. Texas hasn't elected a Democrat to statewide office in 32 years, and Talarico planned his own events on Tuesday in Midland, Amarillo, and Lubbock.

Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio also planned to tour an oil tanker of Venezuelan crude bound for Texas refineries. Trump has touted his August deal giving the U.S. majority control of Venezuela's oil reserves as a way to lower gas prices.

The trip marks the first time Rubio, who also serves as national security adviser, has hit the road with Trump this campaign season. He's considered a top 2028 presidential prospect but hasn't said whether he'll run.

Article Icon 1Texas Children's Opens Detransition Clinic

Texas Children's Hospital in Houston has opened what Attorney General Ken Paxton calls the nation's first detransition clinic, a requirement of the $10 million settlement the hospital reached with his office in May.

Patients through age 21 can receive detransition-related medical care there, and older patients can receive related obstetric and gynecologic care. The hospital must fully fund the clinic for five years, so patients pay nothing.

The $10 million settlement resolves claims that the hospital improperly billed Texas Medicaid for gender-transition treatments, which it denies. Several doctors permanently lost their privileges, and any doctor who performs those treatments there will automatically lose theirs.

Article Icon 1Parents Arrested after Youth Softball Fight

Sugar Land police arrested a husband and wife after an Oct. 24 argument over cheering at a softball game for 12-year-old girls left one father unconscious and a grandfather with a broken hip.

A man from the opposing team told Kiarious Hall he "couldn't cheer before the players pitched the ball." When a second man joined in, police say witness video showed Hall hitting him in the face with a metal water bottle.

The father remains hospitalized with a broken jaw, fractured skull, and three brain bleeds, his attorney said. Hall told police he'd been elbowed and poked and acted in self-defense, but an officer wrote the video didn't clearly show that.

Jazmine Hall allegedly shoved the grandfather before the two tumbled into bushes, and both Halls face assault charges. She resigned as assistant principal at Lamar Junior High on Monday, and the injured father's attorney wants tougher charges.
