Good Morning! On this day in 1795, the United States and Spain signed the Treaty of San Lorenzo, fixing Spanish Florida's northern border at the 31st parallel. A joint survey team later marked the line east to the St. Marys River. Which cars lose the most value in their first five years, and which ones barely drop at all? Tesla owners swear their cars are the future. Toyota drivers brag theirs run forever. Porsche people say you’re making an investment. What about Nissan, Ford, and BMW? A study of more than 950,000 used cars ranked the 10 vehicles that lose value fastest and the 10 that hold their value best. So where does your car land? Amy has the story on today’s Flyover Podcast. Tune in here. Later today, you'll receive a special email from our sponsor Incogni about how to remove your personal information from hundreds of data broker sites, plus an exclusive offer to save 55%. Finding pants that are comfortable enough for a long day but still look sharp isn't always easy. Today's sponsor has a pair designed to do both. Whether you're heading into the office, catching a flight, or going out to dinner, these might be the most versatile pants in your closet.

Teen Charged in FAMU Shooting
Tallahassee police have arrested a 15-year-old boy in Saturday night's shooting that injured 12 people, six of them minors, near Florida A&M University's football stadium during homecoming weekend. Anthony Rivers III, arrested Sunday, faces 11 counts of attempted second-degree murder plus a weapons charge, State Attorney Jack Campbell said Monday. Police believe a fight between acquaintances sparked the shooting and that none of the victims was an intended target. Gunfire erupted around 8 p.m. near Perry and Manatee streets, hitting 11 people, while another person hurt an ankle running away. Victims include an 11-year-old and a FAMU student. Six remained hospitalized Sunday, one critically. Police Chief Lawrence Revell called the arrest "a significant step forward" and said more arrests are possible. FAMU coach Quinn Gray, whose Rattlers lost 31-28 to Arkansas-Pine Bluff earlier that day, wrote in a Facebook post that "no child should ever be caught in gunfire." |
Four Accused of Stealing a Senior's Home
Four people face 15 charges after authorities say they swindled a 71-year-old Hollywood man with dementia out of his home, then left him at a Miami Gardens rooming house. Investigators say Thomas Hegarty signed over his home of 25 years to a company run by two 25-year-old investors, using papers that a notary falsely certified. The house, worth about $300,000, sold for $191,000. Real estate agent Monica Elizabeth Castelli, 56, is accused of removing Hegarty so the group could take his belongings, including three vehicles. Authorities say Castelli left Hegarty at a Miami Gardens rooming house, then picked him up after he became distraught and dropped him off at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, where staff notified his sister-in-law. Castelli faces kidnapping and elder exploitation charges, while investors Brandon Lee Miguel and Jordy Luis Perez face fraud and grand theft counts. Broward Property Appraiser Marty Kiar says the company still controls the home, and the family has hired a lawyer to get it back. |
King Tide Flooding Rolls Into Tuesday
Gusts up to 40 mph will keep pushing king tides onto South Florida streets today, under a wind advisory lasting through this evening for Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties. Seawater swamped Collins Avenue in Miami Beach on Monday and spilled over an orange barrier onto the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk. Businesses there stacked sandbags and boarded up windows, and one server said living with it mostly means learning where to park. It's the second nor'easter in two weeks along Florida's East Coast, with rough surf and flooding expected through most of the week. Waves could reach 11 feet, and small boats should stay in port. Farther north, Brevard County closed every beach access point on Sunday, and waves in Volusia County reached 6 to 10 feet. Volusia is under a coastal flood warning and several other alerts, some of which are expected to last for days. |
