Judge Tosses Last Heartbeat Law Rules
A Hamilton County judge has struck down the remaining provisions of Ohio’s Heartbeat Law, ruling that doctors no longer have to test for fetal cardiac activity or ask women why they’re seeking abortions. Common Pleas Judge Christian Jenkins found the rules unconstitutional under the 2023 amendment voters approved to protect abortion access, writing that the six-week ban “has gone the way of the dodo.” Attorney General Andy Wilson’s office is reviewing the decision and could appeal, as the state did successfully after Jenkins previously made a similar ruling. |
Meta Backs Ohio State Medical AI
Ohio State’s College of Medicine has partnered with Meta to develop artificial intelligence tools that could help doctors spot medical problems earlier. The college is one of five U.S. universities sharing $2 million in grants and access to Meta’s newest Muse AI models. One team will test whether routine abdominal CT scans can flag heart failure risk early, while another will use AI to draft chest X-ray reports for radiologists to review. A third team will draw on data from the university’s Memory Disorders Clinic to assist Alzheimer’s diagnoses. |
