Lightning Strike Triggers Apartment Fire

A lightning strike sparked a three-alarm fire Sunday afternoon at Integra Vistas Apartments in Hixson, sending 21 of Chattanooga's 27 fire companies to the scene as flames consumed the roof of an entire building.

The blaze displaced 70 residents and impacted 42 apartment units before crews brought it under control after a 14-hour battle. Water pressure problems forced firefighters to set up a relay system stretching from hydrants a mile away.

No residents were injured, though one firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion. Several pets were also rescued from the building.

Fire Chief Terry Knowles confirmed the lightning cause Monday morning. The fire department noted that three-alarm responses are rare, and the last one was the Patten Towers fire in March 2021.

Tennessee Tourism Commits to No AI

Tennessee has become the first state in the nation to launch an anti-AI photography campaign, certifying that all photos on its tourism website TNVacation.com are genuine images taken by real photographers.

The commitment comes with content credentials and secure metadata showing who shot each photo, when, and where.

The Yeah, It's Real campaign comes as AI-generated travel imagery has become increasingly difficult to distinguish from real photos, with some fabricated pictures showing mountains in flat West Tennessee or trees that don't exist.

Tennessee's move comes as the state reported a record 147 million visitors spending $31.7 billion in 2025, a 3.3% increase over the prior year. Tourism Commissioner Mark Ezell says he hopes other states will follow Tennessee's lead in committing to authentic travel photography.

Hall of Fame to Celebrate Kenny Chesney

The Country Music Hall of Fame will open Kenny Chesney: Living in Fast Forward on July 23, an exhibit running through June 2027 that traces the Gibbs High School graduate's journey from Knox County to country music superstardom.

The exhibit is set to feature personal details like instruments, handwritten lyrics, stage clothing, and other artifacts spanning more than three decades.

Among the highlights are the varsity jacket and football jersey Chesney wore playing for the Gibbs Eagles in the mid-1980s, the Fender guitar he played at East Tennessee State University, and the weathered wicker rocking chair that inspired his hit Old Blue Chair.

"This exhibit is not a dark ride. It's a very vibrant, fun exhibit," Chesney said. "I hope they feel as connected as we did out there on the road all those years."
