Good morning! On this date in 1976, Jimmy Carter secured the Democrats' presidential nomination at the party’s convention in New York. Are you frustrated with a phone battery that never seems to last the day? You are not alone, and the fix usually is not a trip to the store or a few hundred dollars for a new device. A handful of settings buried in your phone are quietly draining power all day long, and most of them are switched on by default without you ever knowing. In today's episode of The Flyover Podcast, Ayla walks through seven quick changes that can stretch your battery well past what you are getting now. Tune in here to learn more. Today's sponsor, hear.com, introduces the nearly invisible Horizon IX hearing aids, designed to deliver crystal-clear conversations in noisy environments with advanced dual-processing technology, and backed by a 45-day no-risk trial.

Braves Lead at All-Star Break
The Atlanta Braves entered the All-Star break in first place in the National League East, closing the season's first half with a win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday. Five Braves were selected for tonight's All-Star Game. On Sunday, top prospect Cam Caminiti dazzled in the All-Star Futures Game. At 55-40, the Braves hold a two-game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies and currently rank No. 4 in Fox Sports' MLB Power Rankings. On Monday, the Braves announced that injured outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. and shortstop Ha-Seong Kim will begin rehab assignments. Acuña last appeared in a game on June 9. |
Gang Unit Marks Four Years
Georgia's statewide gang prosecution unit secured more than 140 convictions in its first four years, the state attorney general's office said Monday. What started as a single Atlanta office in July 2022 now has satellite prosecutors in Albany, Augusta, Columbus, Macon, Savannah, and southeast Georgia. "Behind every conviction is a family who has been impacted by gang violence or lost a loved one due to senseless crime. They’re the reason we’re fighting each day," State Attorney General Chris Carr said. Notable cases include the largest motorcycle gang indictment in state history—15 members of the Outcast Motorcycle Gang in Bryan County—and a major Richmond County fentanyl bust. In Athens, three members of the Everybody Eats gang were convicted for the 2024 murder of a 3-year-old boy, and a DeKalb County gang member received a 95-year sentence last week for weapons offenses. |
Speed Crackdown Begins
The annual Operation Southern Slow Down multi-state speed enforcement campaign began Monday across Georgia and four neighboring states, running through Sunday. Officials said the goal is not to write tickets but to persuade drivers to slow down and prevent crashes. The ninth annual effort involves law enforcement in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee, targeting speeding and reckless driving during summer travel. During last year's campaign, agencies issued nearly 53,000 speeding tickets and warnings, with Georgia officers accounting for about 13,000 of the speeding contacts. |
