Kemp and Trump Announce Picks

A pair of high-profile political endorsements took place Sunday, with Gov. Brian Kemp endorsing Lt. Gov. Burt Jones to be his successor and President Trump backing U.S. Rep. Mike Collins for the U.S. Senate.

The endorsements came ahead of Tuesday’s primary runoffs, with Jones facing Rick Jackson for the Republican nomination for governor and Collins facing Derek Dooley for the party's nomination for U.S. Senate.

Kemp praised Jones' teamwork and leadership. Jones previously received Trump's endorsement, and the president participated in a tele-rally for him last week.

In the Senate race, Trump called Collins "a true Friend, Fighter, and WARRIOR, who has been with us from the very beginning, and has my Complete and Total Endorsement to be your next United States Senator." Kemp is endorsing Dooley in the race.

Atlanta's World Cup Moment Arrives

Spain faces Cape Verde at noon today at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta's first-ever FIFA World Cup match, with a sold-out crowd of more than 70,000 fans expected.

Spain begins play as the World Cup betting favorite, having won Euro 2024 and the Paris Olympics and featuring 18-year-old phenom Lamine Yamal.

Cape Verde, a small island nation off the coast of West Africa, is making its World Cup debut. It is the third-smallest ever qualifier by population and second-smallest by land area.

A/C Units Stolen From Churches

Someone is stealing and vandalizing air conditioning units from churches in Randolph County, with sheriff's deputies now canvassing the church properties to assess the damage.

The sheriff's office said multiple South Georgia churches were hit and urged all churches to check their buildings. In March in Atlanta, video surveillance captured two hooded vandals stealing copper from a church's A/C units.

The thefts come as a heat advisory remains in effect for parts of South Georgia amid feels-like heat index temperatures of around 105 degrees.
