Cleveland Clinic has agreed not to provide sex-change treatments for children for at least 20 years under an agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice and the Ohio attorney general.

The hospital system also agreed to pay $308,000 to settle allegations that it submitted false claims to obtain insurance coverage for sex-change treatments. It also committed $2 million to provide care for people seeking to reverse such treatments.

The agreement will remain in place even if a court challenge overturns Ohio’s current ban on sex-change treatments for minors.

The deal follows a similar settlement with Texas Children’s Hospital, which agreed to pay a $10 million penalty and create a detransition clinic. The DOJ said these commitments would “pair the cessation of these dangerous practices masquerading as medical treatment with substantial investments in remediating the destruction they cause and restoring the health of the victims.”

Article Icon 1Ohio Targets Data Center Tax Breaks

Ohio lawmakers could move quickly on new data center rules after a Senate panel rewrote House Bill 646, which would cut future state sales tax breaks from 100% to between 50% and 75%.

The higher rate would be available for projects built on brownfields or using outside power sources. Existing agreements would not change, leaving Amazon, Meta, and Google with 100% exemptions through at least the 2050s.

The proposal follows Gov. Mike DeWine’s pause on new exemptions after the tax break cost Ohio more than $1.5 billion in 2025, far above the projected $136 million. Separate bills would end the exemption in 2026 or 2027.

Bromwell's Fireplace, recognized as Cincinnati's oldest continuously operating business, is preparing to leave downtown after more than two centuries at the same address.

Jacob Bromwell opened the shop in 1819. The business has passed through three families over 207 years, growing from its 19th-century roots into a specialty fireplace and furnishings retailer.

Longtime general manager Todd Glacken and his son, Zack, recently purchased Bromwell's from previous owner Jeffrey McClorey and plan to expand the business into outdoor living sales.

Bromwell's will move to the historic Hauck Summer Home at 12171 Mosteller Road in Sharonville. A soft opening is planned for October 2026, followed by a full reopening in spring 2027.
