Iran Ceasefire Details Start to Emerge
New details of the U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding are surfacing ahead of Friday's signing in Geneva, including a ceasefire extending to Lebanon, a 30-day timeline to lift the naval blockade, the Strait of Hormuz reopening under Iranian arrangements, and temporary oil sanctions waivers. Also reportedly included in the agreement is a controversial Gulf-funded $300 billion reconstruction fund. The fund, which is described as a private investment vehicle, not U.S. taxpayer money, has drawn sharp criticism from some GOP legislators who say it mirrors the Obama-era deal Trump once condemned. Vice President JD Vance said the full text had been deliberately withheld for diplomatic sequencing but would be released this week. Iran would reaffirm its pledge never to build a nuclear weapon and enter 60 days of talks on its nuclear program. One unsettled issue is Israel’s position. The country says it’s not bound by the Lebanon ceasefire provision, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insisting Israeli forces will remain there "as long as necessary." |
FBI Foils Plot to Attack UFC Freedom 250
The FBI says agents disrupted a planned attack on Sunday's UFC Freedom 250 event at the White House, with five people now charged in a multi-state terror operation. Court documents say the group planned to fly explosive-laden drones over the north side of the White House, trigger a mass evacuation, then open fire on the fleeing crowd with pre-staged snipers. A second wave allegedly planned to storm the gate. The FBI learned of the threat on June 10, four days before the event. A 19-year-old Ohio man faces attempted murder charges after allegedly helping coordinate the plot. Investigators have identified 23 suspected plotters as part of a broader network. The investigation remains active with additional suspects still at large. |
17 Million Americans Under Flood Watch
More than 17 million Americans are under a flood watch from Texas to Mississippi as heavy rain pounds the Gulf Coast. A woman in Bandera County, Texas, was killed Monday after floodwaters swept her car into a creek. Some areas have already seen 4 to 6 inches of rain, with up to 10 more inches possible through Thursday. A developing tropical low in the western Gulf has a 60% chance of becoming Tropical Storm Arthur, which would be the season's first named storm. Meanwhile, about 40 million people in the Midwest face a severe weather outbreak today, with large tornadoes and 80-mph wind gusts possible across Illinois and Indiana.
