Good Morning! On this date in 1883, William “Buffalo Bill” Cody opened his legendary Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show in Omaha, Nebraska. The show was wildly popular, featuring displays including Pony Express rides, attacks on a stagecoach, cowboy tricks, sharpshooting, roping, and riding. A human intern out-sorted a humanoid robot by 192 packages in a 10-hour live-streamed showdown yesterday, finishing with blisters on his fingers. The robot, of course, just kept going. More on the contest below. It got us wondering: what's the one job you'd never trust a robot to do? Reply and tell us. We read every response. Could one of the most common foods in your kitchen actually help guard your brain against Alzheimer’s? Trump Drops IRS Suit to Get $1.8B Fund
President Trump dropped his $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS on Monday in exchange for the Justice Department creating a $1.776 billion fund for people who claim they were wrongly targeted under the Biden administration. A five-member commission appointed by the attorney general will run the new Anti-Weaponization Fund, and Trump can remove any member. The money comes from the Treasury's Judgment Fund, a taxpayer-backed account used to pay government settlements. Trump can't receive payouts himself, but Jan. 6 defendants potentially could. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, who previously represented Trump in criminal matters, signed the deal, which expires in December 2028. |
Energy Merger Will Create World's Biggest Utility
Energy companies NextEra and Dominion announced a nearly $67 billion merger Monday that will create the world's largest regulated electric utility, serving 10 million customers across Florida, Virginia, and the Carolinas. The companies say scale is the point: larger combined operations mean more efficient construction and financing, which they argue will eventually lead to lower bills for customers amid surging demand for AI data centers. The combined company will operate under NextEra's name, though Dominion's brand will remain in place for its local operations in Virginia and the Carolinas. The all-stock deal is expected to close in 12 to 18 months. |
Human Beats Robot in 10-Hour Factory Challenge
A human intern named Aime outpaced a humanoid robot from Figure AI in a live-streamed 10-hour parcel-sorting challenge in California, finishing with 12,924 packages to the machine's 12,732, a margin of 0.4 seconds per package. You can see the video finish here. Aime was taking California-mandated meal and rest breaks while the F.03 robot ran fully autonomously. It wasn't a runaway. The robot actually took the lead around hour five when Aime took a bathroom break, and Aime later admitted he was about 30 minutes from having to quit, with blisters on his fingers and a forearm he described as "basically broken." Figure AI CEO Brett Adcock congratulated his intern on X, then added this kicker: "This is the last time a human will ever win."
