Good Morning! On this day in 1607, about 100 English colonists arrived on the James River in Virginia to establish Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement in North America. They traveled from England on the ships Susan Constant, Godspeed, and Discovery. Won't you be my neighbor? For a growing number of Americans, the answer is "no, thanks." A new study finds neighborly chatter has dropped sharply over the past decade, especially among young adults. Read more below, and tell us how often you talk to the folks next door in today's poll. Scientists say one small part of the brain holds the key to memory, navigation, and long-term cognitive health, yet many Americans unknowingly let it weaken. The good news? A few surprisingly enjoyable activities may help protect your brain before real decline begins. Tune in to The Flyover Podcast as Ayla Brown shares three simple habits researchers say could help keep your brain sharper for years to come. Listen here. Today’s sponsor, Immersed, is giving investors a final chance to buy pre-IPO shares at $0.72 before the company behind a leading VR productivity platform and the upcoming Visor headset heads toward a planned NASDAQ debut under ticker $IMRS. |

Trump Lands in China for Xi Summit
President Trump arrived in Beijing on Wednesday for his first visit to China as president since 2017, kicking off high-stakes talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping on trade, AI, rare earths, fentanyl, Taiwan, and the Iran war. He brought a billionaire entourage. Elon Musk, Nvidia's Jensen Huang, and Apple's Tim Cook are among the CEOs accompanying Trump, part of a push to win Chinese orders of American planes, soybeans, and beef. Xi skipped the tarmac welcome, but protocol experts called it an upgrade from 2017. Vice President Han Zheng greeted Trump alongside a military band, an honor guard, and 300 flag-waving Chinese youths. |
AI Backlash Hits Both Parties
Voter anxiety over artificial intelligence is hitting both sides of the aisle, with a new Gallup poll finding 71% of Americans oppose AI data centers in their local area. A separate Annenberg survey found 65% of Americans say the government has done too little to regulate AI, including 53% of Republicans, 72% of independents, and 77% of Democrats. In Texas, GOP lawmakers are caught between a pro-data-center governor and outraged constituents in rural districts, where most new sites are being proposed. Some Democrats are also trying to capitalize on the anxiety, while at the federal level, executive action has stalled amid White House infighting. |
Survey: Americans Avoid Their Neighbors
Americans have all but stopped chatting with their neighbors, according to a report from the American Enterprise Institute. In 2012, 59% of Americans talked to a neighbor at least a few times a week. That's now 41%, with young adults driving the drop. Regular chats among 18-to-29-year-olds fell from 51% to 25%, while seniors dropped only 7 points to 56%. A separate recent survey found one in three Americans now actively avoid their neighbors, citing feuds, awkwardness, or simple disinterest in small talk. Researchers blame the convenience of streaming and on-demand services for turning homes into "entertainment bunkers." Pew Research Center recently found that just 44% of Americans say they trust most of the people on their block.
