The Truist Championship begins today at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, drawing top golfers like Rory McIlroy, Cameron Young, and Xander Schauffele. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler announced last week that he is skipping the tournament, which runs through Sunday.

Practice rounds and a pro-am will kick off festivities today, with the first round of competition beginning tomorrow, May 7. Betting odds list McIlroy as the favorite, with Young and Schauffele close behind.

The PGA Tour signature event, which showcases eight of the top 10 players in the world, is expected to have a major economic impact on the area, with thousands of fans attending throughout the week.

Road closures are in effect near the course, including parts of Gleneagles Road. Visitors are encouraged to consider alternate transportation options.

North Carolina lawmakers introduced the Ratepayer and Resource Protection Act on April 27, a bill that would require large data centers to bear the full cost of the power, water, and grid infrastructure they consume.

The legislation marks a policy pivot in a state that has actively courted data center investment. It targets hyperscale facilities—generally defined as those with peak demand of 40 megawatts or more, or significant water use—and moves away from the incentives that have attracted AI-driven projects.

Key provisions include mandating on-site clean generation for at least 25% of peak demand, closed-loop or reclaimed water systems, and barring state and local tax breaks or subsidies.

Counties such as Chatham and Orange as well as towns within Wake County have enacted moratoriums on new data center development, reflecting rising concerns about resource use, land impacts, and infrastructure strain.

Article Icon 1NC K-9 First to be Airlifted for TN Program

A North Carolina sheriff’s K-9 became the first to be airlifted under a Tennessee emergency transport program after the dog suffered acute respiratory distress in Clay County and required urgent care.

Luca, a Belgian Malinois, was stabilized locally following exposure to concentrated ozone inside a law enforcement building before being flown by helicopter to the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine for advanced treatment.

The flight marked the first real-world use of the university’s K-9 Transport Program, designed to speed care for working dogs.

The case also highlights gaps in emergency veterinary access for rural agencies across North Carolina. While recent legislation expanded the ability of emergency personnel to treat injured police dogs, there’s currently no standardized system for the rapid transport of injured K-9s to specialized facilities.

Unknown Number Calling? It’s Not Random

The BBC caught scam call center workers on hidden cameras as they laughed at the people they were tricking.

One worker bragged about making $250k from victims. The disturbing truth?

Scammers don’t pick phone numbers at random. They buy your data from brokers.

Once your data is out there, it’s not just calls. It’s phishing, impersonation, and identity theft.

That’s why we recommend Incogni: They delete your info from the web, monitor and follow up automatically, and continue to erase data as new risks appear.
