Boy, 8, Helps Stop Plane from Being Diverted

An 8-year-old boy from England prevented a plane from being diverted after spending more than three hours calming a disruptive passenger mid-flight.

Phoenix Rose and his father, James, were flying home from Turkey on a Jet2 flight when a woman began shouting and swearing after being caught drinking her own alcohol on board.

After the crew warned the flight could be diverted, James asked a flight attendant if he could try to help. The crew agreed, and the woman was seated between the father and son. Phoenix took over from there, singing to the woman, showing her his football cards, and gently tapping her arm whenever she started to escalate. "Don't shout, don't swear," he told her. "What do your kids do?"

It worked. The woman stayed calm for the rest of the flight. The pilot shook their hands upon landing, and Jet2 gifted them free flights. Then strangers across the U.K., Germany, and the Netherlands began sending presents to their home, including a PlayStation 5.

Firefighter Reunites with Graduate

When Chloe Huddle walked across the stage at Grand Canyon University to receive her degree in educational studies, one of the loudest cheers came from the retired firefighter who helped bring her into the world 22 years earlier.

Alan Kent responded to a medical call in Colorado Springs on Feb. 15, 2004, and delivered baby Chloe at the family's home that morning. He was the first person to hold her.

Weeks later, her mother brought Chloe to Fire Station 15 to say thank you, and the two families made a pact: Chloe would celebrate birthdays at the station, and Alan would be there for her major milestones. They’ve kept that promise ever since.

Alan, now retired after 35 years in the fire service, traveled 800 miles from Colorado to Phoenix for the ceremony. "Even if I wasn't retired, I wouldn't miss this," he said. He's also on the guest list for Chloe's wedding this summer.

Goats Aid in Family Rescue

Two pet goats named Percy and Penny helped rescuers locate a family trapped in their storm cellar after an EF4 tornado destroyed their home in Enid, Oklahoma. The Sloat family had taken shelter as the storm hit, but heavy debris sealed the cellar door shut.

The family feared their goats hadn't survived. The plywood shelter they'd built for Percy and Penny had completely vanished. Then, from underground, Mary Sloat and her daughter heard something they couldn't believe: goat noises.

Percy and Penny were standing directly on top of the brick pile covering the cellar. When rescuers arrived, the goats gave them the clue they needed. "Your goats were standing on the pile of bricks, and we were pretty sure that's probably where the cellar was," one rescuer told the family.

"On days whenever they're being ornery and they headbutt me, or they nip at my fingers, I'm going to have to remember this," Sloat said.
