Top NFL Pick Donates $500K for MS

Hours before the Las Vegas Raiders selected him as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza announced a $500,000 donation to the National MS Society and launched the Mendoza Family Fund in honor of his mother, Elsa, who has lived with multiple sclerosis for nearly 20 years.

Fernando skipped attending the draft in Pittsburgh to be with his family in Miami. His mother delivered an emotional message as she addressed the room: "I am so proud of not all the successes; you make me so proud—your kindness, your humility, your faith."

The donation launches the Mendoza Family Fund, which builds on years of fundraising efforts by Fernando and his brother Alberto. The brothers have already raised more than $360,000 through partnerships with local restaurants, creating Cuban-themed menu items with proceeds going to MS research.

The initiative aims to raise more than $1 million over the next three years.

"She's the reason we fight, and the reason we believe we can do something bigger than ourselves," Fernando said. "Together, we can bring us closer to a cure and a future free of MS."

Kids Act after Bus Driver Blacks Out

A group of Mississippi middle school students jumped into action after their bus driver suffered an asthma attack and lost consciousness on a four-lane highway with about 40 kids on board.

Jackson Casnave, 12, was sitting directly behind the driver when the bus began to swerve. He grabbed the wheel and called for help. Darrius Clark, also 12, slammed on the brakes, and together they guided the bus onto a median and put it in park. Kayleigh Clark, 13, called 911, while Destiny Cornelius, 15, and McKenzy Finch, 13, administered the driver's medication and contacted the school district.

"I didn't have time to process my emotions," Jackson said. "I just wanted to make sure that nobody got hurt."

Driver Leah Taylor, 46, has made a full recovery and was emotional in thanking her students: "They're the ones that saved my life and everybody else's on that bus."

Ohio Siblings Reunite in Same Nursing Home

After nearly a decade apart, a brother and sister discovered they were living just a few doors down from each other at a nursing facility in Massillon, Ohio.

Becky Gibson, 82, moved into Rose Lane Nursing and Rehabilitation in late 2024. In January, her brother, 75-year-old Vietnam veteran Ralph Slawter, moved into the same facility after spending four decades in Florida. Neither knew the other was there until their daughters connected the dots through social media.

A few nights after Ralph arrived, his grandson wheeled him down the hallway, where he found his sister. The two now spend their days together looking through old photographs and watching the geese on the pond outside.

"I didn't know I'd ever see her again," Ralph said, "and here we ended up here together."
