Good Morning! On this day in 1835, Edward Porter Alexander, one of the Confederacy's most celebrated artillery commanders, was born in Wilkes County. We hope you had a great holiday weekend! Today’s edition is a little shorter as our staff celebrated Memorial Day with their families. We’ll be back with the full lineup on Wednesday. After President Trump warned the Iranian World Cup team to steer clear of American soil "for their own life and safety," Iran has now found a new country willing to host them instead. On The Flyover Podcast, Ayla Brown shares the surprise nation stepping in to take the team, plus what Iran has to say about the world's sporting event being held in America. Tune in here! Later today, you’ll receive a message from our partner, Insurify, about how car insurance rates have risen and how comparing quotes in one place could help you find a lower rate in just a few minutes.

Georgia Observes Memorial Day
Georgians from the mountains to the coast paused on Memorial Day to honor the men and women who gave their lives in service of the country. Across the state, flags flew at half-staff. On Sunday in metro Atlanta, a ceremony at Marietta National Cemetery brought together veterans, families, and community members. State troopers urged caution for travelers headed home, with nine roadway deaths reported as of Monday morning. Law enforcement also reported hundreds of DUI arrests over the long weekend. |
GOP Governor Hopefuls Campaign
Lt. Gov. Burt Jones released a campaign ad featuring President Trump's endorsement ahead of the Republican gubernatorial primary runoff on June 16. Meanwhile, Jones and fellow runoff candidate Rick Jackson are sparring over the timing of a debate, with Jones proposing Monday and Jackson calling for a June 14 matchup. Early voting begins June 8. Jones and Jackson advanced from last week's GOP primary after neither candidate cleared the majority needed to avoid a runoff. The runoff winner will face former Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, who won the Democratic nomination outright. Jones led the GOP primary voting with 38%, followed by Jackson at 33%, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger at 15%, and state Attorney General Chris Carr at 12%. |
