Tennessee death row inmate Tony Carruthers is asking Gov. Bill Lee to stop his scheduled Thursday execution so additional DNA testing can be completed in his decades-old murder case.

Carruthers has spent more than 30 years on death row after being convicted in the 1994 kidnapping and killing of a 43-year-old Memphis mother, her 21-year-old son, and his 17-year-old friend.

Carruthers has long maintained his innocence, and supporters, including faith leaders and former jailers, are rallying at the state Capitol with a petition carrying more than 80,000 signatures seeking a halt to the execution.

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian has also joined calls to halt Carruthers’ execution, using her platform to push for additional DNA testing and a review of the case before Tennessee carries out the execution.

NFL owners are expected to vote today on awarding Nashville the 2030 Super Bowl, according to reports from NFL Network.

The game would be played at the Tennessee Titans’ new $2.1 billion Nissan Stadium, which is scheduled to open in 2027 along the Cumberland River.

If approved, it would mark the first Super Bowl hosted in Tennessee’s capital, a goal city leaders and the Titans have chased for years. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell hinted last fall that Nashville was positioned for a future Super Bowl bid.

Local officials are also pursuing future Final Fours, College Football Playoff title games, and potentially WrestleMania.

When the bars close and the concert crowds spill out onto Nashville streets, a handful of Middle Tennessee spots are still firing up burgers, pizza, and milkshakes well past 1 a.m.

Among the standouts: Midnight Oil for New York-style pizza and margaritas, and Jack Brown’s Beer & Burger Joint for creative burgers and fried Oreos.

Meanwhile, Mel’s Drive-In offers a retro 24-hour diner ambiance while serving smash burgers and breakfast around the clock.

Good Fellas Pizzeria and Steak Plus Pizza also keep ovens hot until 3 a.m., while Jonathan’s Grille and High Society mix late-night food with sports, karaoke, and live music.
