Drought Impacts Spread
Farmers are making daily adjustments during planting season as dry, hard clay from Georgia's ongoing drought damages equipment and threatens yields for cotton, peanuts, and wheat. Lake Lanier levels are dropping, raising concerns about the water supply for metro Atlanta. The Chattahoochee River north of the city is running lower than normal. Meanwhile, firefighters battled a wildfire on Buzzard Mountain in White County, with roughly 26 acres burned and 60% containment as of Monday. The state is experiencing its worst drought in 14 years, with the latest U.S. Drought Monitor showing 98% of the state in some level of drought and 18% in the most severe category. |
