A map on the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) website no longer includes a planned wall through the park. Instead, it indicates plans for a "virtual wall" that could notify officials of illegal border crossings in the area. No official announcement on the border wall has come from the Trump administration, and the CBP map has changed legends multiple times in recent weeks, leaving lingering questions on the proposed 150-mile project. Meanwhile, Big Bend canceled its highly anticipated project to tear down and rebuild the Chisos Mountains Lodge, one of its most iconic visitor hubs, citing funding issues. There's no indication that the decision is linked to the border wall proposal. | Camp Mystic Files To Reopen for Summer Camp Camp Mystic officially applied to operate summer camp this week, planning a partial reopening after last year’s deadly floods took the lives of 25 campers, two counselors, and the camp's director. Families of victims are back in court after the filing, seeking to block the reopening as one camper’s body, 8-year-old Cile Steward, has yet to be recovered. The Stewards’ attorney has stated that “in their rush to reopen, Camp Mystic is offering up fun playtime in the waters that may hold Cile Steward.” Camp Mystic would offer summer camp at its Cypress Lake site in compliance with all new state camp safety laws, according to the camp’s attorneys. Cypress Lake is a short distance from the Guadalupe site where the fatalities took place last summer. | Paxton No Longer Has To Represent Comptroller A federal judge has allowed Attorney General Ken Paxton to excuse his office from representing acting Comptroller Kelly Hancock in a discrimination lawsuit amid fallout between the two Republicans. Judge Alfred H. Bennett granted Paxton’s request on condition the comptroller’s office find a new attorney, saying “I do not want the comptroller to be unrepresented. Not one day.” Hancock’s office manages the new Texas education voucher program and has been sued for not allowing Islamic schools to participate. His feud with Paxton began last week when he sent a letter to the attorney general criticizing his strategy in the case. Paxton’s request to withdraw from the case said that Hancock’s “petty politics ... single-handedly destroyed my ability to defend the Comptroller’s office in these cases.” | | | Flying together with our sponsor Car insurance isn’t exactly getting cheaper right now.
