Delta Exec: No Merger Talks Ongoing
Delta Air Lines publicly rebuffed airline merger speculation this week, with a top executive declaring the carrier is not pursuing a combination with any U.S. rival. Delta chief commercial officer Joe Esposito told reporters that the Atlanta-based airline “doesn’t need it at this point. We're successful on our own." Esposito's comments followed last week's consolidation chatter that swirled around United and American Airlines. Also, Delta CEO Ed Bastian spoke earlier this month about oil prices possibly pushing weaker carriers toward merging with larger airlines. Delta, United, American, and Southwest control roughly 80% of domestic air travel. |
Georgia Drivers Catch Break at the Pump
Georgia motorists are paying an average of about $3.61 per gallon for regular gasoline, roughly 45 cents below the national average, according to Monday's AAA South report. Some areas of the state are seeing even lower pump prices, including $3.48 in Gordon County, $3.49 in Bartow County, $3.52 in Floyd County, and $3.53 in Chattooga County. You can track gas prices in your area here. Industry observers cite the suspension of the state gas tax and a leveling off of gas prices in general as factors in positioning the Peach State among the cheaper states for gas. "Gas prices continue to move with the ups and downs of the global market, but for now, Georgia drivers are seeing some welcome stability," AAA spokeswoman Montrae Waiters said. |
HGTV Co-founder Lists $42M Estate
HGTV founder Ken Lowe and his wife, Julia, put their oceanfront Sea Island estate on the market for $42 million. Named "Lowe Tide," the 11,000-square-foot, five-bedroom, nine-bathroom mansion sits directly on the Atlantic Ocean at Sea Island’s East Beach. The property features Italian marble and limestone finishes, a chef’s kitchen, a dedicated chocolate-making room, and a three-story closet. The couple purchased the property in 2017 for $9.1 million and spent four years completely remodeling the site, with Julia Lowe leading the transformation. Ken Lowe, who founded HGTV in 1994, said he and his wife are selling the home so they can travel more and split their time between Paris, London, and New York. |
