Ohio politicians, including the state’s two GOP U.S. senators, voiced support for Saturday’s joint U.S.–Israeli airstrikes on Iran that killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other top Iranian officials.

Sen. Bernie Moreno said President Trump would “always put America’s interests first,” adding that he trusted the president to “finally” bring peace to the Middle East. Sen. Jon Husted pointed to Iran’s long history of state-sponsored terrorism and said the regime was “brutally oppressing its own people.”

U.S. Rep. Greg Landsman, D-Cincinnati, backed the strikes, saying that if it weren’t for the Iranian regime, “the region may very well know peace.” Other Ohio Democrats criticized Trump’s decision to launch the strikes without congressional approval.

Khamenei’s death prompted Iranians to celebrate in the streets, while some Iranians in Ohio said force was the only way to confront the regime, and others feared for civilians’ safety.

Nine people are in stable condition after a mass shooting early Sunday at Riverfront Live in Cincinnati’s East End, police said.

A social media post said the venue was hosting a birthday party that began at 10 p.m. on Saturday. A witness said he saw an altercation inside the venue that left someone “knocked unconscious,” adding that three people entered the club 10 to 15 minutes later and opened fire.

In a Sunday afternoon update, Cincinnati police said between 500 and 600 people were inside the venue when shots rang out. Police had not yet released suspect information.

The Columbus Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) joined the investigation, which continued throughout Sunday.
