State Adds Free Carbon Monoxide Detectors

Tennessee fire officials are expanding the state's long-running Get Alarmed, Tennessee! program to include free carbon monoxide detectors, following deadly poisonings during Winter Storm Fern.

The program, run by the State Fire Marshal's Office, has already distributed more than 342,000 smoke alarms since 2012 and credits those alarms with saving 524 lives.

Fire departments can now install CO detectors alongside smoke alarms, with priority on homes using generators or alternative heating sources.

Residents who qualify are urged to contact their local fire department or request help through the state's fire safety website.

Manchester Warns of Water Failure

City leaders in Manchester are urging residents and businesses to conserve water immediately, warning that failure to reduce usage could lead to a complete breakdown of the water system.

Officials say that demand has jumped by more than 1 million gallons a day since the recent cold snap, straining the Duck River Utility Commission's treatment facilities.

The utility says the surge is preventing essential maintenance and repairs.

Customers in Manchester, Tullahoma, Wartrace, Bell Buckle, Hillsboro, and Pelham are all being asked to reduce water use.

TN Native First to Become Super Bowl MVP

Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III made history by becoming the first Super Bowl MVP from Tennessee after leading Seattle to a 29-13 win over New England.

The former Arlington High School standout rushed for 135 yards, becoming the first running back this century to win Super Bowl MVP honors.

Once a lightly recruited two-star prospect, Walker starred at Wake Forest, broke out at Michigan State, and was drafted by Seattle in 2022.

The Memphis-area native has earned both a Lombardi Trophy and a place in Tennessee history.
