Supreme Court to Hear Boulder Oil Case

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear a petition by oil and gas companies to dismiss a landmark lawsuit brought against them by the city and county of Boulder.

Boulder's lawsuit, filed in state court in 2018, argues Exxon Mobil and Suncor bear responsibility for the environmental harm allegedly caused by fossil fuels. The Colorado Supreme Court ruled in May 2025 that the case can proceed.

The companies are now appealing that decision in the nation's highest court. The Trump administration filed a brief supporting them and urging the court to throw out the lawsuit.

The court's ruling will have national implications, likely determining whether similar lawsuits seeking billions in damages from companies like BP, Chevron, and Shell can move forward.

Aurora Settles with Edge at Lowry Owners

A company associated with CBZ Management, owners of the now-shuttered Edge at Lowry apartment buildings, agreed to pay the City of Aurora $300,000 to settle a lawsuit over the properties.

The Edge at Lowry made national headlines in 2024 when CBZ claimed Tren de Aragua, a Venezuelan gang, had taken over the complexes, causing a national controversy that played into the presidential election.

The $300,000 settlement reimburses the city's costs to close, maintain, and secure the buildings, which a judge ordered to shut down early last year due to "an immediate threat to public safety."

Zev Baumgarten, believed to be the owner of CBZ and its affiliates, still faces outstanding arrest warrants after failing to show up to court appearances related to the properties.

Summit FC Debuts Uniform

Denver Summit FC, the city's first professional women's soccer team, unveiled its team jerseys at a live event Monday.

The club's debut kit is primarily evergreen, a color choice "inspired by the towering pine forests that blanket Colorado's Front Range year-round." Sky-blue striping adds to the theme. See a photo here.

The team called the uniform a "love letter to Colorado," saying it reflects "the spirit of Coloradans, the ruggedness of our community, and the ambition of a club ready for the first climb."

Summit plays its inaugural game this March. The club has already sold 45,000 tickets for the match, setting them up to break the league's single-game attendance record of 40,091.
