Freezing Temps Move through the State

A polar air mass moving through large swaths of the country has reached the state and brought temperatures well below freezing to many areas. The Panhandle, North, and Central Texas are expected to see the lowest temperatures.

Overnight temperatures were expected to fall below 20 degrees, with some areas, including the Red River Valley, possibly seeing snow that was unlikely to accumulate.

Prolonged freezing temperatures overnight can kill sensitive plants and crops and can put stress on other vegetation. Other risks of freezing include frozen and burst water pipes.

Temperatures are expected to stay frigid into next week.

Ten Commandments Monument Unveiled

A Ten Commandments monument was unveiled at the Tarrant County Courthouse in downtown Fort Worth this week.

County leaders initiated the idea last year, and it was formally accepted in a 3-1 vote by county commissioners in April 2025. The monument is nearly identical to the one located at the Texas State Capitol.

Supporters say the monument reflects the nation’s moral and legal foundations, while opponents argue it violates the constitutional principle of separation of church and state and elevates Christianity above other religions.

Similar monuments have been put up in Austin and Amarillo, and in states like Kentucky and Oklahoma.

Dr Pepper Museum Has Record Year

The Dr Pepper Museum in Waco set an attendance record in 2025, welcoming 270,000 visitors—the highest total in its nearly 35-year history.

The museum, which offers hands-on experiences such as creating custom soft drinks and visiting a handcrafted soda fountain, remains a major draw. Eighty-five percent of visitors surveyed said the primary reason for visiting Waco was the Dr Pepper Museum.

The museum opened two new exhibits last year. The museum also launched the Mary Avenue Façade Project, a restoration project of its 1906-built Artesian Manufacturing and Bottling Company Building. The museum also plans to unveil a 23-foot-tall World’s Largest Dr Pepper Bottle this May.
