A bill that aims to eliminate non-school property taxes cleared its final committee on Thursday after an 11-5 vote. It now goes to the full Chamber for approval. The bill boosts the homestead exemption on non-school property taxes by $100,000 annually for the next 10 years. Beginning Jan. 1, 2037, it fully exempts all homestead properties from non-school property taxes. Small town politicians have spoken out against the bill, claiming it will cut vital services. "The thing about it is, they're not in (South Bay). We're in the city each and every day. We see the services that have to be rendered to our residents, the individuals in the Capitol don't see any of this here," said South Bay Mayor Joe Kyles. | Measles Cases Confirmed in Jacksonville Two children from the same household who went into Baptist Health's main campus emergency room in Jacksonville on Jan. 16 have been confirmed to have measles. The Florida Department of Health will be contacting anyone who may have been exposed while the children were being treated, officials said.
