Good Morning! On this day in 1811, Sen. Timothy Pickering, a Massachusetts Federalist, became the Senate's first censured member after a 20-7 vote for publicly revealing secret presidential documents in violation of congressional law.

This may not be the world's biggest news, but it's still nice to see: Flossie, the world's oldest living cat, turned 30 this week, the human equivalent of more than 120 years old. She's a bit deaf and a bit blind, but she's still looking great. You can see photos at the link in our story below.

Trump Pulls National Guard from Cities

President Trump announced that the National Guard was leaving Chicago, Los Angeles and Portland, but warned that "we will come back" if crime rises again.

The announcement came a week after The Supreme Court refused to overturn a federal ruling in Chicago that barred the administration from deploying National Guard troops in Illinois while a legal challenge moves forward.

"We will come back, perhaps in a much different and stronger form, when crime begins to soar again - Only a question of time!" Trump said on Truth Social, adding that the three cities would be "GONE" if his administration hadn't intervened.

Buffett Steps Back After 60 Years

Warren Buffett ended his soaring financial run at Berkshire Hathaway on Wednesday when he handed over the CEO reins to Greg Abel after a six-decade tenure that earned an overall return of more than 5.5 million percent from 1964 to 2024.

One example of the growth: When Buffett took control of Berkshire, an unremarkable textile company, in the mid-1960s, its shares traded around $19. By the end of 2025, a single Class A share was worth over $750,000.

Berkshire stock fell slightly on Wednesday, Buffett's last day as CEO. He'll remain as chairman and said he plans to keep going every day to Berkshire's office in Omaha, Nebraska, about 2 miles east of his home, to help the new CEO.

College Football Semifinals Set

A New Year's Day trio of playoff games has set the stage for the College Football Playoff semifinals next weekend: No. 6 Ole Miss will play No. 10 seed Miami (Fla.) on Jan. 8, and No. 1 Indiana will face No. 5 Oregon on Jan. 9.

The final game on New Year's was a thriller won by Old Miss with a game-winning 47-yard field goal with six seconds left. A safety on the ensuing kickoff sealed No. 6 Ole Miss' 39-34 Sugar Bowl win over No. 3 Georgia.

In earlier games, top-ranked Indiana blew out No. 9 Alabama 38-3, outgaining the Crimson Tide 407-193 in yards to secure the Hoosiers' first Rose Bowl victory. Indiana advanced to the semi-finals, where it will try to beat Oregon for the second time this season.

No. 5 Oregon shut out No. 4 Texas Tech 23-0 in the morning game behind two interceptions and a fumble recovery from Ducks defensive back Brandon Finney Jr.

The night before, on New Year's Eve, No. 10 seed Miami (Fla.) upset No. 2 Ohio State 24-14, returning an interception 72 yards for a touchdown and sacking Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin five times.
