Schools Announce Monday Closures, Remote Learning

Several school districts across the state will close or shift to virtual learning on Monday due to weather concerns.

The decisions follow anticipated icy weather conditions that could lead to harsh travel conditions and power outages.

The state's first ice storm warning since 2014 was issued on Friday for metro Atlanta and north Georgia.

The University of Georgia campus will also be closed on Monday.

Second Lawsuit for Homeless Encampment Sweep

The family of Cornelius Taylor, a 46‑year‑old homeless man who was killed by a bulldozer while he was in his tent during an Atlanta homeless encampment sweep, has filed a lawsuit against the nonprofits involved in the clearing.

The lawsuit alleges that the nonprofits should have ensured that Taylor wasn't inside the tent prior to the clearing.

This is the family's second lawsuit related to the incident. In July 2025, the family filed a lawsuit against the City of Atlanta, which is still pending.

Earlier this month, local supporters honored Taylor with a wreath-laying ceremony along Old Wheat Street in Atlanta.

Atlanta Ranks High For Active Lifestyle

Atlanta is ranked the seventh-best city in the nation for an active lifestyle, according to a 2026 study by WalletHub.

The list considered factors such as sports clubs per capita, average monthly fitness-club fee, weather, and air quality.

The city tied for first in swimming pools per capita and ranked fourth in tennis courts per capita.
