Markets Tumble over Greenland

U.S. markets suffered sharp losses Tuesday as President Trump's push to acquire Greenland sparked a global flight from American assets.

The Dow plunged nearly 900 points while the dollar suffered its steepest decline since April, prompting Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to urge European leaders not to retaliate against proposed tariffs.

Trump threatened 10% levies on eight NATO countries starting Feb. 1, rising to 25% by June if Denmark refuses to negotiate Greenland's transfer, with European Union officials convening emergency meetings to discuss trade and financial countermeasures.

Tuesday's uncertainty saw U.S. Treasury yields spike, which could impact interest rates, as bond prices tumbled, while gold surged past $4,700 per ounce for the first time.

Trump to Sign Gaza Peace Charter

President Trump will sign the charter for his Gaza Board of Peace on Thursday in Davos, Switzerland, to oversee reconstruction of the region.

U.S. officials say more than 10 countries have signed on, though only five have been identified publicly, including the United Arab Emirates, Belarus, Morocco, Hungary, and Canada.

Countries can pay $1 billion to become permanent members or hold typical three-year appointments. Trump extended board membership offers to several heads of state, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Trump threatened 200% tariffs on French wines and Champagne after reports that French President Emmanuel Macron won't join, saying "Well, nobody wants him because he's going to be out of office very soon."

'Be The People' Push Launches July 4

A new $200 million campaign called Be The People will launch on July 4 to inspire Americans to roll up their sleeves and tackle local problems like addiction, poverty, and stalled economic mobility.

Backed by 50 foundations and individual donors and led by nonprofit Stand Together, the 10-year effort brings together groups like Habitat for Humanity, Goodwill, and the NBA to help folks plug into hands-on projects—from mentoring teens to fixing up homes to launching job training programs.

Stand Together was founded by billionaire Charles Koch and works across a broad range of issues and communities in the U.S.

Organizers say the goal is to shift civic culture by showing that real change starts in neighborhoods, not Washington.
