Bill Would End Taxes on Grocery Staples

A bill would make SNAP-eligible foods tax-free for everyone in Arizona, extending the sales tax exemption that already applies to those in the food stamp program.

State Rep. Leo Biasiucci, R-Kingman, said he introduced the measure to ease the financial strain on families, arguing that essential foods such as dairy, fruits, vegetables, meats, and breads should not be taxed.

The proposal would block cities and towns from taxing certain foods, while a related ballot measure in November could cap grocery taxes statewide.

Kelly Eyes Possible Presidential Run

U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly announced he is considering a 2028 presidential run in part to oppose what he claims is "a weaponization of the federal government against the constitutional rights of a million retired veterans."

Kelly's potential candidacy comes after he and five other Democrats released a video urging military personnel to refuse unspecified "illegal orders." As a retired Navy captain still subject to military law, Kelly was censured by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and could face demotion.

Kelly's announcement sparked reactions from both his supporters and critics on X and other social media platforms.

Space Force Unit Begins Work

U.S. Space Forces Southern was officially activated during a ceremony at Davis‑Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson.

The new unit provides support for U.S. military and security operations in Central and South America.

Lt. Col. Brandon P. Alford was introduced as the unit commander at the event, which also included the unveiling of the unit's emblem.
