Good Morning! On this day in 1958, a Ku Klux Klan rally near Maxton aimed to intimidate the Lumbee Indian community. Hundreds of armed Lumbee residents surrounded and confronted the Klansmen, who fled in panic after a light was shot out, followed by a brief exchange of gunfire. The event effectively ended the KKK's public activity in Robeson County.

Fugitive Captured in Decade-Old Murder

An FBI 10 Most Wanted fugitive accused of killing a Charlotte woman nearly a decade ago has been captured in Mexico, the FBI announced on Saturday.

Alejandro "Alex" Rosales Castillo, 27, was arrested Thursday in Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico, according to the FBI Charlotte and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Castillo is charged with murdering 23-year-old Truc Quan "Sandy" Ly Le. The woman's body was found on August 17, 2016, in a wooded area in Cabarrus County.

Audit Shows Thousands of Job Vacancies

The North Carolina Office of the State Auditor released a performance audit late Thursday that showed 8,846 long-term vacancies across 46 state agencies as of August.

The jobs totaled more than $1.04 billion in lapsed salary.

The audit found more than 4,500 positions that have been vacant for at least a year, including 190 job openings that have gone unfilled for more than five years. State Auditor Dave Boliek suggests the state should consider cutting positions that have been vacant for years and investing in other essential positions.

Among the agencies struggling to recruit and retain employees is the Department of Adult Corrections, which manages the state's prisons. With a 24% turnover rate, department leaders are concerned for their employees' safety due to low staffing levels.

Central N.C. Could See Light Snow Today

A wave of arctic air will build into Central North Carolina today, bringing along a chance of wintry precipitation.

The timing of colder air will have to be just right in order to overlap with the moisture in the Triad, but light snow could occur, especially along the western edge of the Piedmont.

A light coating of wet snow is also possible in the Triangle today, mostly on elevated surfaces. The best chances of accumulation are expected from Raleigh north and west, particularly along and north of I-85.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation salted and brined major roadways across Central North Carolina, but the snowfall is not likely to exceed one-half inch.
