Ron DeSantis announced on Wednesday that he appointed Florida First District Court of Appeal Judge Adam Tanenbaum to the Florida Supreme Court. From a press conference at Seminole High School in Pinellas County, where Tanenbaum was valedictorian and student body president, the governor said the judge will replace former Justice Charles Canady, who resigned on Dec. 31 to take a position at the University of Florida. Before becoming a Judge, Tanenbaum worked in commercial litigation and served as a state and federal public defender, general counsel for the Florida Department of State, and chief deputy solicitor general at the Florida Department of Legal Affairs. "Someone could be on the court for 20, 30 years," DeSantis said, going on to express confidence that Tanenbaum had the "courage" and "warrior spirit" to make tough rulings "when it may not be as popular to do so." | Aldi Expanding in Florida Aldi, an international supermarket chain founded in Germany, announced it will open more than 180 new stores across 31 states, including Florida, this year. Halfway through the 2020s, the warning signs from 100 years ago are frighteningly similar to today. Look at the parallels: - Valuations: In 1929, the Shiller P/E ratio (a key measure of stock valuation) peaked near 30. Today, it hovers close to 40—creating phantom wealth that exists only on paper.
- Margin Debt: Money borrowed to risk on speculation in the markets has surged to a record $1.18 trillion. When markets dip, decades of contributions to a 401(k), IRA, or pension can be wiped out in minutes.
- The Wealth Gap: In 1929, the top 0.1% controlled 25% of the nation's wealth. Today, economists at Saez & Zucman confirm inequality has returned to similar extremes. Extreme inequality breaks an economy dependent on consumer spending.
