The proposed $359 million deal still requires approval from the City Commission, which is scheduled to vote on the proposal on Jan. 14. Additionally, under the terms, FSU has agreed to invest $1.7 billion locally over the next 30 years. The deal still faces opposition, with Commissioner Jeremy Matlow saying, "The people of Tallahassee are being robbed in broad daylight and losing a public asset valued at hundreds of millions of dollars for a quarter of the value." | Cities with Highest Property Tax Increase A new report from the nonprofit Florida TaxWatch reveals which of the state's 50 largest cities have imposed the steepest increases in tax levies between 2014 and 2024, with Apopka leading the list after property taxes surged 372%. Other Central Florida cities with large increases over the 10-year period include St. Cloud, which came in second with a 295% increase, and North Port, where taxes rose 294%. Port St. Lucie saw a property tax increase of 257%, while in Southern Florida, Homestead had an increase of 191% to round out the top five.
