How We Finish This Year Will Define the Next One

Today is the final day of 2025.

And how we finish this year will dictate how we start the next.

For decades, legacy media decided what Americans read, watched, and believed. They chased clicks. They elevated celebrity "journalists." They blurred the line between reporting and opinion to push a political agenda—and then wondered why trust collapsed.

2025 was the year readers began choosing something different.

The Flyover's growth didn't explode because of outrage or agenda.
It grew because millions of Americans are hungry for:

  • Facts over spin
  • Reporting over opinion
  • Common sense over political agendas

As we head into 2026, we're sending a clear message:

The Flyover is going to be the No. 1 source of unbiased, fact-first, common-sense news in America.

And the reason won't be corporations.
It won't be political donors.
It will be reader-owners.

The Department of Justice sued Virginia over a state law that allows any student who has attended high school in the Commonwealth for at least two years and graduated—regardless of immigration status—to qualify for in-state tuition at public universities.

The suit alleges that the provision favors illegal immigrants over American citizens from other states.

"This is not only wrong but illegal," the complaint, which was filed in federal court on Monday, said. "The challenged act's discriminatory treatment in favor of illegal aliens over citizens is squarely prohibited and preempted by federal law."

Meanwhile, a report from the Association of International Educators warned that Virginia could lose as much as $23 million in revenue due to federal policies that make it more difficult for foreign students to study in the U.S.

The Commonwealth generated over $890 million from hosting more than 23,000 international students during the last academic year.

At exactly 15 minutes before midnight, the bells of Fincastle will begin to peal as the town rings in the New Year the same way it has for more than 150 years.

First, the courthouse bell will ring once, followed by a single ring from churches around town, one after another, until it returns to the courthouse, and the circuit repeats until midnight.

Nobody is certain when the tradition began, but it has been passed down from one generation to the next and has survived changes to the courthouse and the churches involved.

Once the ringing dies down, Virginia State Parks will welcome visitors for a First Day Hike tomorrow. Parking will be free at all locations.

Other January 1 activities include Richmond's 18th annual Cone Parade at noon, and Oyster Fest in Fairfax beginning at 2 p.m.
