Farmers to Receive Aid Amid Steep Losses

President Trump announced a $12 billion federal farm aid package earlier this week, as Tennessee crop farmers face projected losses of $430 million in 2025, up from $298 million in 2024.

The aid includes $11 billion in one-time payments to crop farmers through the Farmer Bridge Assistance program. Here are the federal aid details.

According to the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture estimates presented during a state budget hearing, Tennessee producers are losing money on four major crops, corn, cotton, soybeans, and wheat, as market conditions continue to weaken.

The losses stem partly from the lingering trade conflict with China, which disrupted agricultural exports despite Trump's trade truce, as China has yet to fulfill agreed-upon soybean purchases.

Vandy QB Named Heisman Finalist

Vanderbilt's Diego Pavia is a 2025 Heisman Trophy finalist, marking a historic moment for the Commodores.

The senior quarterback threw for 3,192 yards and 27 touchdowns, adding 826 rushing yards and nine scores, powering Vandy to its first-ever 10-win season.

Nashville Launches Adaptive Sports Teams

Metro Nashville Public Schools will become the first district in Tennessee to offer official adaptive sports programs, thanks to a $25,000 grant from Bridgestone.

Starting next fall, students with disabilities will have the chance to compete in wheelchair basketball, bowling, and track as part of school teams.

The initiative aims to close a national gap in athletic access for students with special education needs, as fewer than 3% of U.S. schools offer adaptive sports.

Officials hope the program sets a statewide example and opens new doors for students.
