Missing Coach Wanted for Child Solicitation

Virginia State Police announced that missing Union High School football coach Travis L. Turner is being sought on child pornography possession and child solicitation charges.

Turner disappeared on Thursday. Troopers went to his home in Appalachia in Wise County to question him, but did not find him. The 46-year-old had been treated as a missing person, but is "now considered a fugitive," state police said.

On the field, Union High School football has an undefeated season. Assistant coach Jay Edwards is expected to lead the Bears in the region finals on Saturday.

Commonwealth Climate Report

The first Virginia Climate Assessment, released last week by George Mason University, reported that the Commonwealth is becoming wetter, with increased rainfall and more frequent coastal flooding. Scientists have also noted that it has been getting warmer, with the average statewide temperature increasing by more than 1.5°F (0.8°C) since 1900.

Central Virginia experienced several powerful storms this year that resulted in above-average rainfall. Other parts of the state, though, are ending the year under a drought watch after the rain dried up this autumn.

"This assessment represents unprecedented collaboration across disciplines and institutions," said Jim Kinter, the director of the Virginia Climate Center and coordinating author of the document.

A different climate study released last week, conducted by scientists at the University of California, warned that some industrial facilities in Virginia may be at risk of flooding, including the Fort Eustis Army base in Newport News and DuPont's Spruance Plant in Chesterfield County.

Thanksgiving in Virginia

"Thanksgiving is a time for heartfelt reflection and gratitude, spent with family, friends, and loved ones, preserving traditions and creating new memories," Gov. Glenn Youngkin wrote in his annual proclamation.

Ahead of tomorrow's holiday, many groups across Virginia worked to distribute food to the needy, including turkey and all the sides. Portsmouth landlord Travis Johnson got into the holiday spirit by waiving the rent for some tenants for the months of November and December.

Travelers can expect dry conditions for most of the weekend, but temperatures are set to plunge from today's highs.

Many Virginians will apparently be eating chocolate pie tomorrow, after it was revealed to be the most uniquely popular pie in the Commonwealth.
