| Recovery Ongoing Year After Helene Georgia is still quietly recovering a year after brutal inland damage caused by Hurricane Helene, a top University of Georgia meteorologist says. Marshall Shepherd, director of the school's atmospheric science program, wrote an article titled Hurricane Helene and the Overlooked Georgia Story, published in Forbes. "Georgia experienced Helene's longest consecutive track footprint, and the state took a beating because of it," he writes, adding the impact was somewhat overshadowed by other states' losses. Georgia incurred more than $5.5 billion in estimated damages to farms, forests, utilities, and buildings from the late September storm—and residents say the scars remain. Rural communities are still clearing debris from some areas, with one 97-year-old Wheeler County man noting he's struggling to clear the last of the fallen timber from his land. | Kemp's Trip to Include South Korea Stop Gov. Brian Kemp will visit South Korea and Japan this fall, a trip planned before the immigration raid at Hyundai's battery plant near Savannah. State lawmakers voiced optimism that the trip will result in continued strong trade between Georgia and South Korea, Hyundai's home country and one of the state's top trade partners. The visit is Kemp's third to South Korea during his term and will include meetings with officials from Hyundai and LG. A Hyundai executive said last week the company will go forward with its major expansion in Georgia and the U.S., saying the immigration raid "doesn't change our plans." | Secretary of State Race Draws Another Entrant The 2026 race for Georgia Secretary of State continues to attract candidates, with former Fulton County judge Penny Brown Reynolds the latest to launch a campaign. Reynolds joins Adrian Consonery Jr. in vying for the Democratic nomination. The Republican field includes businessman Kelvin King, state Rep. Tim Fleming, and Gabriel Sterling, a former executive in the secretary of state's office. The current secretary of state, Brad Raffensperger, is running for governor. | |
| Flying together with our sponsor From a Caltech Garage to a $1 Trillion Market In 2016, some innovative Caltech robotics students set out to transform fast food. That first garage-built prototype became the foundation of Miso Robotics. Since then, Miso's robots have worked 200K+ hours in live kitchens for brands like White Castle, frying 4M+ baskets of fries, chicken, and more. That traction convinced NVIDIA, Uber AI, and Amazon to help refine Miso's AI and robots. As restaurants grapple with 144% employee turnover rates and $20/hour minimum wages, that's a major edge. No wonder Miso's first fully commercial robot, Flippy Fry Station, sold out of initial units in one week. Now, Miso is leveraging its new manufacturing partnership to scale U.S.-based production nationwide across a $4B annual revenue opportunity. And you can get up to 8% bonus stock and share in Miso's growth as an early-stage investor. | |
