Coast Braces for Tropical Storm

Tropical Storm Imelda is moving north through the Bahamas and could bring rain, wind, and flooding to Georgia's coast as early as Tuesday.

Most forecasts indicate the storm will curve east before landfall, but areas from Savannah to Brunswick are still expected to experience strong winds, coastal flooding, and rip currents.

Rain totals along the Georgia coast may reach 1.5 inches, with lesser amounts inland.

State officials urge caution, especially in flood-prone zones, as the storm's path remains uncertain.

Teams Slip in AP Poll

Georgia fell to No. 12 and Georgia Tech slipped one spot to No. 17 in the latest AP college football poll released Sunday.

On Saturday, Georgia fell 24-21 to Alabama, with coach Kirby Smart once again beaten by his former school. The loss snapped the previously No. 5 Bulldogs' 33-game home win streak.

Georgia Tech faced a bigger test than expected in its 30-29 overtime win at Wake Forest, rallying from 17 down and sealing it with a goal-line interception on a 2-point try.

Georgia Tech goes into a bye week at 5-0, its best start to a season since 2014.

National Guard Unit Deployed in DC

More than 300 Georgia National Guard troops are now taking their turn patrolling parts of Washington, D.C., as part of President Trump's push to make the nation's capital safer.

Gov. Brian Kemp authorized the use of the troops earlier this month.

The Georgia soldiers—members of the 170th Military Police Battalion—replaced a South Carolina unit in the multi-state rotation of guard units tasked with securing high-traffic areas. The South Carolina unit spent about five weeks on the assignment.

Former Georgia congressman and current Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins praised the call-up and thanked the soldiers during a conference last Monday in Atlanta.
