Not the most flattering picture but I'm happy!
I seem to take forever to finish these monthly updates. I came home really tired and have been feeling tired and sluggish all week. Still do. Anyhow.
The surf continued to produce after that big small jacks day. The next day the Spanish mackerel were running and I caught a few, a couple keepers including one really nice one. Also another pomp, another big day.
They bit me off, so I got a different lure and figured out a better way to rig the casting rod. Use 60 pound leader, that'll keep them from biting off. The Kastmaster really works well, though a lot of them come off, and I'm not sure why that is.
The old cart I bought in 2022 broke. it was all rusted and just not a good cart. Very heavy and hard to roll on the sand. So I tossed that one in the dump, along with a bunch of other stuff I had to go to the dump, and bought this:
New Cart. BIG improvement!
This is MUCH lighter and rolls really well. Will be a much better long-term solution.
Morning at Johnson Beach
I tried it out the next day at Johnson Beach. It was a big improvement, but the fishing was weak. Some whiting, some sea robins, small cobia and that's it. Tried the lagoon side and caught a spec trout and a large but well undersized cobia that made for a fun fight. Also had a 5' shark come out of the weeds and follow the lure into the sand bar. I got out quick and he went the other way, but those weeds in Big Lagoon hide a LOT of fish,
Evening at Navy Point
Fished Navy Point. Found a couple black drum, a mangrove and some other fish to round it out. A good day and a beautiful sunset. This whole area is just gorgeous. Weather was warm but not too hot this time, very pleasant. A very nice trip, just short.
Morning at Sanders Beach
Final fishing day was a morning out of Sanders Beach. It was a good day - caught some keeper bluefish, one on the lure and one on shrimp. Also caught some really nice mangroves and... a small jack ๐
I fished until I ran out of shrimp and near the end I lost my anchor, of all things. Had strange equipment failures on this trip - reels, surf cart, the anchor. Great fishing, but bad luck on the equipment.
Final haul from inshore. Pretty Nice!
Some nice "new species" additions with the bluefish and Spanish mackerel. Getting more confidence and success with the jig casting. Got a new cart, but I could have done without the extra expenses.
I really love Pensacola. I brought everything in and the storm missed us, fortunately. Hopefully they continue to miss us, and miss everyone else as well.
